Privacy Policy

At Silvertree, we respect your privacy. This policy outlines how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit our website or use our services.

1. Introduction

Silvertree Education NPC (“Silvertree Education”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) is a non-profit company registered in South Africa. We are committed to protecting the personal information of all individuals who interact with us, including students, parents and guardians, staff, and visitors to our website.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (“POPIA”) and other applicable South African privacy laws. By using our website or engaging with our services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with its terms, please refrain from using our website or services.

2. Who We Are

Silvertree Education NPC is based in the Western Cape, South Africa, and is the responsible party for the personal information collected through our website and operations. If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your personal information, you are welcome to reach us by email at hello@silvertree.education, by phone at +27 72 633 4446, or by post to our address in the Western Cape, South Africa.

3. Who This Policy Applies To

This Privacy Policy applies to current and prospective students, parents and guardians of enrolled minors, staff members and educators, and visitors to our website. Because we serve both minors and adults, we take particular care in how we handle personal information relating to children. Where we collect personal information about a child — defined as a person under the age of 18 — we will, where required by law, seek the consent of a parent or competent guardian before doing so.

4. Personal Information We Collect
4.1 Information You Provide Directly

When you interact with us directly, such as through our contact or enrolment forms, we collect the information you voluntarily submit. This typically includes your first and last name, email address, and phone number, as well as any other details you choose to provide.

4.2 Information Collected Automatically

When you visit our website, which is built using Framer, we may automatically collect certain technical and behavioural data. This includes your browser type and version, device type and operating system, the pages you visit and the time spent on each, the website or source that referred you to us, your approximate geographic location at city or region level, and user behaviour data such as clicks and scroll depth. This information is collected through cookies and similar tracking technologies, which are described in more detail in Section 7.

4.3 Information from Third-Party Platforms

Our website may include embedded content from third-party platforms, such as Instagram posts. If you interact with such embedded content, the respective platform may collect data about your interaction in accordance with its own privacy policy. We do not control the data practices of these third parties and encourage you to review their policies independently.

5. How and Why We Use Your Personal Information

We use your personal information for a number of legitimate purposes. These include enrolment and administration — to process applications, manage registrations, and administer your relationship with us — as well as communication, to respond to enquiries and send updates to students, parents, and guardians. Where you have subscribed or consented to receive marketing material, we use your information to send you news about our programmes and events. We also use website analytics data to understand how visitors use our site and to improve our content and user experience. Finally, we process personal information as necessary to meet our legal obligations under applicable South African law.

We will only use your personal information for the purposes for which it was collected, or for compatible purposes where you have given consent or where the law permits.

6. Newsletter and Email Marketing

You may subscribe to our newsletter by submitting your email address on our website. By subscribing, you consent to receive marketing communications from us about our courses, updates, and events. We use a third-party email marketing platform to manage our newsletter, and your email address will be shared with that platform solely for the purpose of sending our communications. The specific provider may be updated from time to time.

You may unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link included in every email, or by contacting us directly at hello@silvertree.education.

7. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
7.1 What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help us recognise your browser, remember your preferences, and understand how you interact with our site.

7.2 Types of Cookies We Use

We use analytics cookies to understand how visitors navigate our website, which pages are most visited, and where users spend the most time. We use tools such as Google Analytics for this purpose. We may also use marketing cookies to track the effectiveness of our campaigns and display relevant advertising. We are currently in the process of evaluating tools including Meta Pixel and Google Tags, and this policy will be updated when these tools are activated.

7.3 Managing Cookies

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings at any time. Please note that disabling certain cookies may affect the functionality of our website. Most browsers allow you to refuse new cookies or delete cookies that have already been set.

8. Sharing Your Personal Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with trusted third parties in limited circumstances. Your email address and name may be shared with our email marketing platform, such as Mailchimp or a similar provider, solely to facilitate our newsletter communications. We may also share information with technology and hosting providers who assist in operating our website and services, including Framer. These service providers are obligated to handle your data securely and only as directed by us. In addition, we may disclose your information where required to do so by law or in response to valid legal process from South African authorities.

Where we share personal information with third-party processors, we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle your information in a manner consistent with POPIA.

9. Links to External Websites and Platforms

Our website contains links to external websites and social media platforms, including Instagram and TikTok. These links open in a new tab and take you to websites that are not operated by us. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites and encourage you to read their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

Our website may also embed video content. Where video content is hosted directly on our servers, no third-party video platform data is collected. If we introduce embedded YouTube videos in future, this policy will be updated accordingly.

11. How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy, or for as long as required or permitted by applicable law. In practice, we aim to retain personal information only for as long as it is relevant and useful. Where you have requested deletion of your personal information and there is no legal obligation requiring us to retain it, we will take reasonable steps to remove it from our active systems. You are welcome to contact us at hello@silvertree.education to request information about our retention practices or to request deletion of your data.

12. Security of Your Personal Information

We take the security of your personal information seriously and implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect it against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure. If you have reason to believe that your personal information has been compromised, please contact us immediately at hello@silvertree.education.

13. Your Rights Under POPIA

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal information. You have the right to be notified when your personal information is being collected, the right to access the information we hold about you, and the right to request correction of information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, or incomplete. You also have the right to request deletion or destruction of your personal information (subject to any legal retention requirements), the right to object to processing, and the right to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent. You further have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@silvertree.education or +27 72 633 4446. We will respond to your request within a reasonable timeframe. You may also contact the Information Regulator of South Africa directly at www.inforegulator.org.za or inforeg@justice.gov.za.

When we make material changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Continued use of our website following any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
